AOAC-RI PTM Validation

The Association of Official Analytical Chemists (“AOAC”) is a non-profit scientific association with headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. It publishes standardized, chemical analysis methods designed to increase confidence in results of chemical and microbiological analyses. Government agencies and civil organizations often require that laboratories use official AOAC Performance Tested Method (“PTM“) certification.

AOAC’s technical contributions center on the creation, validation and global publication of reliable analytical test methods, primarily to evaluate the safety of foods, beverages, dietary supplements, and similar materials consumed by humans and animals, or to evaluate purity of materials used in production of foodstuffs and their ingredients.

AOAC has 10 North American sections, organized geographically, as well as seven geographic sections in the rest of the world.

AFNOR Validation

The Association Française de Normalisation (“AFNOR”) is the French national organization for its international organization for standardizing activities, providing information, certification and training through a global network of key partners. The AFNOR group worldwide consists of the countries France, Algeria, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Gabon, Germany, India, Italy, Iran, Ivory Coast, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, New Caledonia, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, Russia, Spain, Senegal, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.

AFNOR provides certification in the areas of management systems, products, services, labels, individuals, private verfications, assessments, and online tests. They also offer assessment services in corporate social responsibility and of suppliers. More commonly known, AFNOR provides certification and audit services in relation to International Standards Organization (“ISO”).

Health Canada Approved Method

One of Health Canada’s responsibilities is to ensure the health and safety of Canadians as it relates to products and services, along with reducing health risk. The Health Canada Approved Method as it relates to food safety products and services applies standards and regulations to verify laboratory procedures. Health Canada publishes these approved methods in the Compendium of Analytical Methods.

NordVal International

In 2007, NordVal International was incorporated as a certification body within NMKL (Nordic Committee on Food Analysis). NMKL was established in 1947 and consists of chemists, microbiologists, sensory analysts and statisticians from the five Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

NMKL’s objectives are to:

  • be a Nordic network of expert in food analysis
  • provide reliable methods and procedures for foods and feeds
  • offer NordVal certified methods for feed, food and environmental samples
  • develop guidelines for laboratories and users of analytical results
  • organize relevant training courses, workshops and seminars both nationally and internationally
  • promote Nordic interests internationally on topics relating to food methodology

The NMKL organization also cooperates with Nordic food safety authorities and other international food safety bodies to ensure a safe and reliable food trade supply in accordance with legislation.
